How to Cool Your Home Efficiently During a Texas Summer

How Can I Cool My Home Efficiently?

Hello, friends — Sergeant Sam here! Believe it or not, summer is just around the corner — but if you live in Grapevine, Texas, and the surrounding areas, that warm weather might be creeping up sooner than you think! To stay prepared and make sure your troop's base is ready to tackle those hot, blistering days, here are some pro tips on how to cool your home as efficiently as possible; let's get started!

Consider Replacing Your Current Air Conditioner

Personnel, I loathe to inform you, but your current air conditioner might be using much more energy than you realize, especially if you have put off annual maintenance. Yearly tune-ups are not a gimmick: a member of our troop will examine your unit, from helmet to boot, making sure every aspect is healthy and efficient. Not only does this provide you with peace of mind that your system won't fail you on the hottest days of the year, but it will also help preserve it; central cooling units typically last between 10 to 12 years with routine maintenance from a professional.

Now, Personnel, if you put off annual maintenance and have noticed in recent years that your energy bills have been through the roof when your air conditioner is in use, there's a strong chance your unit is working harder than it has to in order to reach the desired temperature on your thermostat.

Additionally, without scheduling a visit with our troop of HVAC pros, mechanical issues could go unnoticed, leading to older parts wearing out much faster and, ultimately, leading to the system's gradual deterioration.

Solution? If you feel as if your unit has seen better days or it's nearing retirement, consider having a new cooling Lieutenant (central air conditioner) stationed at your base! Upgrading to a more modern, advanced model (i.e., such as an ENERGY STAR certified unit) can help reduce your home base's energy consumption while keeping you cool and comfortable in the process.

And, Personnel, if you're looking to maximize your energy efficiency, you may want to meet my friend — the smart thermostat.

Have a Smart Thermostat Installed

Nowadays, thermostats have come a long way in terms of function and design (you should see the one in my tent!). And if you're tired of your current model that resides at your base, as well as paying higher energy bills, it's time to introduce a new friend — like a smart thermostat! This helpful device will not only keep your troop comfortable around the clock, but it will do it as efficiently as possible!

With the capability to be controlled by a smartphone (as long as you have a steady internet connection), your base will be the talk of the town! Hence the name; this device also uses smart scheduling to help cut down on unnecessary energy consumption (i.e., when you're visiting someone else's camp) and helps reduce your energy bills!

Plus, as a bonus, Lieutenant AC will be able to report to you when they're feeling under the weather — since your smart thermostat will send updates to your phone if there's an issue at the base that needs your attention.

Schedule a Professional Air Duct Cleaning

Be honest with good pal Sergeant Sam: when was the last time you had your home's air ducts cleaned by my troop? If you can't recall, now would be the perfect time to schedule an appointment for your base! Believe it or not, trespassers (airborne particulate matter) can enter your tent (air ducts) without notice.

When this happens, these trespassers will travel through your air ducts and spread throughout your tent; your troop may start to show symptoms of indoor allergies (i.e., watery eyes, scratchy throat, stuffy nose, etcetera) as a result of their presence. Besides having a professional indoor air quality product installed (i.e., an air scrubber), consider having our troop come over to your base and clean the ducts in your tent!

Our troop of professionals will be able to clean out your tent's air ducts regularly. This will help lessen the chance of trespassers lingering in your vents, as well as allowing you to breathe easier when you're lounging around the tent. Furthermore, if our troop notices something out of the ordinary during the cleaning, they'll bring it to your attention and will provide you with resolutions to fix the problem at hand.
